EXPERIENCE:
Have you ever ridden a motorbike?  Yes, I’ve ridden a motorbike several times/ Yes, I have.
Have you ever been to Moscow? No, I haven’t  been to Moscow/ No, I haven’t.

UNFINISHED ACTIONS: (For –a period of time-// Since -a point in time-) 
How long have you studied English? For nearly 2 years / Since 2006 / Since I was a child.
How long have you lived here? For 40 years / Since 1974 / All my life / Since I was 10.
How long have you worked as a waiter? For 8 years / For a long time/ Forever. 
How long have you worked in your present job? / How long have you been unemployed?

-            Llevo trabajando/trabajo desde los 14.
-         I have worked since I was 14.
-         Tengo mi coche desde el año pasado.
-         I have had my car since last year.
-         Busco trabajo desde hace 2 meses.
-         Aún No he encontrado trabajo de camarero.
-         I have looked for a job for 2 months. /I       haven’t found a job as  a waiter yet.
-         Conozco a mi mejor amiga de/desde siempre.
-         I have known my best friend for ever.
-         Salimos desde hace dos años.
-         Llevamos saliendo dos años.
-         Estuvimos saliendo un año.
-         Salimos un año.
-         We've gone out for 2 years.

Grammar explanation: The present perfect

1. For actions totally finished in the past we use PAST SIMPLE.
2. For experiences and actions which still have an effect or influence in the present,
we use PRESENT PERFECT.

     PRESENT PERFECT + ever / yet / already / just
                     
A. Have you ever been to London?          Yes, I have.
                                                                Yes, I went to London last year.
B. Have you finished yet?  
    No, I haven't finished yet.
    Yes, I have already  finished.

C. I've just finished.

Notice:
  • Ever ( Middle position in questions) (alguna vez)
  • Yet (Final position in questions and negative) (ya, aún, todavía)
  • Already (Middle position in affirmative) (ya)
  • Just (Middle position in affirmative) (acabo de ...)

The comparative and the superlative


This is a summary of the comparison of adjectives. Now practise writing some comparisons.

EXERCISE: 
1. Compare 2 elements (Superiority and inferiority): A monkey and an elephant.
2. Compare 2 elements (Equality): A lion and a tiger.
3. Compare 3 elements (Superlative): A monkey, an elephant and a tiger.

Useful expressions: At the airport



Questions you will hear at the check-in counter: 
Ticket please.
May I see your ticket?
Do you have an e-ticket?
Do you have some photo ID?
How many bags are you checking?
Did you pack these bags yourself?
Do you have a carry-on bag? (a bag or purse to take on the airplane)
Do you require special assistance? (example a “wheelchair”)
Have you paid your airport improvement fee/tax?
Would you like a window or an aisle seat? (aisle is pronounced “eye + l”)

Problems you may hear: 
Your baggage is overweight. (Remove some contents or pay a fine.)
Your carry-on luggage is too large.
Your flight is delayed. (It’s late.)
Your flight has been cancelled. (You must rebook a new flight)
Your connecting flight/connection has been cancelled/is delayed.
Your ticket is expired.
Your passport is expired.

Commands and questions at the Security Checkpoint: 
Boarding pass, please.
ID please. (show your photo ID)
Spread your arms out please. (Put your arms up and out to the sides of your body)
Take your shoes off.
Open your bag.
Take off/remove your belt.
Do you have any change in your pockets?
Do you have any metals?
Do you have any food/produce?
Do you have any liquids or medicine?
Walk through.
You must dump all food or beverages. (You can’t bring it through the gates.)

Questions YOU may need to ask: 
Is my flight on time?
When should I be at the gate?
Where is the boarding gate?
Where is the washroom?
